Printing Tips for PLA Silk
Silk PLA shows its best surface quality at lower speeds — the pearly sheen comes from the way the polymer flows, and rushing the print dulls it. Run the nozzle at 210–220 °C and the bed at 55–60 °C, and hold speeds around 30–50 mm/s. Keep cooling moderate: too much airflow freezes the surface before the gradient has a chance to blend smoothly.
- Slower prints shinier — 30–50 mm/s gives the deepest, most even luster
- A slightly higher nozzle temperature (210–220 °C) smooths the surface finish
- Avoid walls thinner than 0.8 mm; the dual-color effect needs material depth to show
Storage and Batch Quality
Silk PLA draws its shine from the base polymer, so moisture is the enemy of the finish — wet filament prints dull and bubbly. Keep spools sealed with desiccant and dry an opened spool at 45–50 °C for 4–6 hours before a display-grade print. Your spool arrives mechanically wound, tangle-checked, measured across the full length at ±0.02 mm and vacuum-sealed the day it is produced.
